The Earth Prize is a $100,000 environmental sustainability competition with 1000+ teams worldwide from over 1500 schools in 144 countries, pitching innovative solutions to climate change and other environmental issues plaguing the world currently. My team and I were selected to be one of the Earth Prize Finalists (Top 10 globally). We put forward the idea of mycofiltration, the utilisation of fungal mycelium networks to filter out toxic chemicals and heavy metals from tributaries in the Niger Delta Region.
Due to our team’s success, many news channels decided to report on our project, including the United Nations themselves.
